South Africa Rejects AB de Villiers’ Offer To Play ICC World Cup 2019, Twitter Reacts
Jun 6, 2019 at 1:53 PM
AB de Villiers had offered to make a comeback to international cricket for South Africa at World Cup 2019 in England. However, his offer was rejected by the South Africa team management. The reports surfaced now after the poor show from the South African team in the world cup 2019.
AB de Villiers’ offer of making a last-minute entry to the South African squad for the 2019 World Cup was rejected by the South Africa team management, ESPNcricinfo reported on Thursday (June 6).
The former South African batsman, who announced his retirement from international in May 2018, is said to have made the offer just 24 hours before South Africa’s selectors picked the 15-man squad for the World Cup.
The team management turned down AB de Villiers’ offer:
The 35-year-old is said to have spoken to captain Faf du Plessis, coach Ottis Gibson and convenor of selectors Linda Zondi, but his request was ‘not even considered’.
But, it wasn’t the expected reply for AB de Villiers, as the selectors, captain and the head coach weren’t entertained with that. In addition, there are quite a few rules, which denied his return to the World Cup team.’
The first viewpoint was that the player needs to play a domestic tournament at least for a few months to be considered for the selection. Furthermore, they felt that it would be unfair for the other cricketers, who are breaking a sweat in the matches to grab a spot in the world cup team.
Meanwhile, South Africa have now recorded their worst start in eight World Cup campaigns. After losing their first two matches, to England and Bangladesh, they went down by six wickets to Virat Kohli’s men in Southampton on Wednesday.
Here are a few tweets:
My sincere apologies to AB de Villiers. AB offered to come out of retirement and play in the World Cup but CSA rejected his offer because he hadn’t played international/domestic cricket for SA leading up to it.. CSA are a bunch of morons #ProteaFire pic.twitter.com/Qg7vLPzjOw

The @OfficialCSA team management begged @ABdeVilliers17 not to retire.
Take a sabbatical, skip a few series they said.
Don't use the word retire.
He said he was at peace with his decision.
This u-turn, before @CWC19_ICC came too late.
How do you accommodate that?

You can’t blame the players for AB De Villiers retiring a year before #CWC19 but you can blame AB for undermining the #ProteaFire ‘s chances – surely he should know that responsibility to the national cause is the price he should pay for his greatness #ThatsMyPoint

I am sorry. No matter who you are, you can't make yourself suddenly available 24 hrs before squad announcement and expect to be picked.
As much as I would have loved to see @ABdeVilliers17 at #CWC19 ,I think @OfficialCSA made the right call here. #ABDevilliers#INDvSA #SAvIND

If #ABDevilliers wants to play you just drop all the rules, make all the room you can to accommodate him into the team. This decision by the south African management is going to lead to an embarrassing world cup performance. #CWC19 #ludicrous

You never say no to GOAT. Include @ABdeVilliers17 in South African line up and see the difference. It looks more furious, confident and fearsome. #CWC19 #ABDevilliers https://t.co/CXt1kZXO1m
