West Indians chased down the mammoth 232 run total set by South Africans inside 20 overs, only to create few other records.
Important Stats during the second T20 between South Africa and West Indies that came into notice were:
–> Total runs aggregate in the match is 467 runs; the highest in a T20I and 2nd highest in overall T20s.
Previous highest in T20Is in 457 during the match between England and Australia in 2013, whereas the highest aggregate in overall T20s is 469 runs during Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals during an IPL match in 2010.
–> 236 for 6 by West Indies in the chase was the highest Total in T20Is as well as in Twenty20 Cricket; also the highest total during successful run-chase.
214 for 4 by Australia vs New Zealand in 2010 is previous highest total in chase in T20Is. Previous best for highest total during a successful run chase in T20Is is 211 for 4 by India vs Sri Lanka in 2009.
Previous record for highest successful total in chase & highest total in chase in Twenty20 Cricket was by Essex for their 226 for 3 vs Sussex in 2014.
–> West Indies’ total of 236 for 6 was also the fourth highest total in T20Is in overall; highest T20I total for West Indies, and the innings’ run rate of 12.2 was the 6th best run rate in a T20I innings.
–> Faf du Plessis managed to record the second fastest century in T20Is with a 46-ball Century. 45-ball hundred by Levi in 2012 vs New Zealand for the same South Africa was the fastest.
–> Du Plessis became the only second captain to score century in T20Is after T Dilshan in 2011. He now breaks the record of Chris Gayle for scoring most runs in losing cause. Gayle scored 117 against South Africa in 2007, only other century which went in losing cause out of 13 T20I Centuries which also came at Johannesburg.
–> Du Plessis became the only 8th player to score 100s in all three formats. Other 7 are: C Gayle, B McCullum, S Raina, M Jayawardene, T Dilshan, M Guptill, A Shehzad.
–> Du Plessis’ 119 run innings was the 3rd best in T20Is, only behind Aaron Finch’s 156 and Brendon McCullum’s 123.
–> West Indies scored 81 runs during mandatory power play and the highest during power play is 91 by Netherlands against Ireland 2014
–> Kyle Abbott conceded 68 runs in the innings, recorded as the most runs conceded by a player during a bowling in T20Is. Previous record of worst conceding was by James Anderson & Sanath Jayasuria who gave away 64 runs.
Conceding most runs in a bowling innings in Twenty20 format is 81 by Sarmad Anwar for Stallions against Lions in 2011; with Abbott’s been 6th best.
