South African All-Rounder Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie Passes Away Aged 25
In one of that tragic news, the death of the former South African all-rounder Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie shook the cricketing world. She lost her life after meeting with a brutal car accident. Alongside the cricketer, her child also lost her life.
The former all-rounder of South Africa is just 25-year-old and also represented Nation in the 2013 ICC World Cup. However, the unfortunate incident took place on Friday when she went in her car with her child.
She represented the Proteas in three One-Day Internationals as well as one T20 International match, the last of these being against Bangladesh in the home series in 2013. Despite losing her place in the team, she never moved away from the game of cricket.
Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie gave excellent service – Thabang
Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie continued her cricket in the provisional tournament for North West Dragons. She was one of the active members in the development of grass root level of women cricket. Elriesa also took the role of coaching in the local hub.
Speaking of the tragic incident, the chief executive of South Africa Thabang Moroe quoted that it was a dreadful incident to know. Further, he extended his condolences for the family members of Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie, who lost her at such an age.
”This is a dreadful tragedy in the true sense of that word,” commented CSA Chief Executive Thabang Moroe.
He also lauded the efforts put in by the cricketer towards the welfare of the game at grassroots level. They gave their strengths to the teammates of Fourie and her husband Rudy.
“This is devastating news for all of us. Elriesa did so much for the community in which she lived and gave excellent service both as a national player of note and in the work that she did at grassroots level to help in the less fortunate communities.
“On behalf of the CSA Family, I extend our deepest sympathy to her husband, Rudy, her family, friends and all her cricketing colleagues.”
However, it is a tough loss for South African Cricket and the family of Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie.
