After winning the T20 series against India, the South African team reached Kanpur to face India in the 1st ODI of the series. After reaching Kanpur, they were under pressure, with the pitch supposed to be assisting the spinners a lot. India might well go on with 3 spinners in this match.

The South African captain and coach reached out to locals and sought their help regarding this issue. The locals suggested the players to chew Gutka, something which has been a success mantra for the entire Kanpur population.  The South African team management has decided to replace chewing gums by Gutka and has written an official letter to ICC for a permission regarding this.

They also had a trial session regarding Gutka chewing and as usual AB deVilliers came out as the best performer. While talking to the reporters, deVilliers said that Gutka is a good mouth freshner as well, apart from the fact that it will solve their problem of facing the spinners on the Indian tracks.

deVilliers also added that a lot will depend on whether the ICC allows them to spit Gutka on the field, else it may be a problem for the inner circle fielders to run to the boundary and spit Gutka.

Rest of the South African were also convinced with the performance of the Gutka while helping them to face the spinners in the net session. The team is confident of putting a good show against India.
