Fast-bowler Lungi Ngidi and batsman David Miller have been left out of South Africa’s 14-member squad for the New Zealand tour. Also, they’ve included seamer Dane Paterson as cover for Dwaine Pretorius, who is awaiting the birth of his first child.
Lungi Ngidi, 20, sustained a hip injury during the third T20I against Sri Lanka and was left out of the ODI squad too. Left-handed batsman Miller sustained an injury on his hand while fielding in the third ODI and thus required stitches.
Linda Zondi, South Africa’s convener of selectors, said:
“We, as selectors are very happy with the way the squad has gelled over the past 6 months and consistency in selection is very important as we continue our build-up towards the ICC Champions Trophy tournament.”
South Africa currently lead the five-match series against Sri Lanka 4-0. The final ODI is scheduled to be played in Centurion on February 10.
