Donning different colour but with the same intent. Delhi Daredevils’ skipper Gautam Gambhir started from where he had left with the old-franchise. Playing the first game of the season, Gambhir rose to the occasion in a solid fashion.
The aggressive left-handed batsman Gambhir hit five boundaries and a six to bring up his 36th fifty. A record joint-highest with another southpaw David Warner.
The Aussie batter achieved the feat in 114 games while Gambhir reached the milestone in his 150th match.
Gambhir shines in a season opener against KXIP:
Gambhir was bought by the Delhi franchise for INR 2.8 crore. He has earlier led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) – to two IPL trophies.
Apart from him, Rishabh Pant played a vital cameo of 13-ball 28. Pant found the ropes on four occasions and hit a maximum during his brief stay.
All-rounder Chris Morris also joined hands and scored a quick-fire 27 but it all went in vain as Punjab sealed a comfortable win.
KL Rahul smashed the fastest fifty in the history of IPL. And he was particularly brutal against leggie Amit Mishra.
Gambhir eyes the trophy:
It wasn’t the ideal way to start the tournament for skipper Gambhir. The southpaw is eyeing another cup, this time with the Daredevils and it is not so secret. He had earlier said that he feels lucky to come back to his home side.
“After being picked by DD for this IPL season, I said that ‘you are lucky enough if you start your career with a franchise and you get an opportunity to end your tenure with the same team’,” Gambhir said.
“I am the fortunate one that I am back with DD side with whom I started my IPL career. But it doesn’t mean that this is my last season,” Gautam Gambhir quoted.Delhi will take a lot of positives from this game, but it’s Punjab who earned the vital points,” Gambhir maintained.
