World Twenty20: India wins humdinger against Bangladesh by one run

  1. India vs Bangladesh – Bangalore, World T20:

This game would be etched in the memories of a billion Indian fans, as the hosts literally got out of jail. On an unusual Bangalore pitch, India could only manage 146 in 20 overs and it needed something extraordinary to remain in the hunt as it was a must win game for them. Bangladesh lost wickets regularly but kept the required run-rate in check. At one stage, they needed just 50 off 48 deliveries before Ravichandran Ashwin foxed Shakib Al Hasan. A spell of tremendous death bowling from pacers Ashish Nehra and Jasprit Bumrah meant that 11 were still needed off the last over. Bumrah though, deserves a special mention, as in his final spell of two overs, he gave away just 13 runs and maintained pressure with his accurate yorkers.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya was given the responsibility of bowling the final over with Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim in the middle. Rahim hit consecutive boundaries on the second and third ball as Bangladesh needed just two off the last three deliveries. On the very next ball, Rahim was caught at deep mid-wicket as he attempted the glory shot. Mahmudullah, trying to slog a full toss, was caught at the same position spectacularly by Ravindra Jadeja on the next ball, as Bangladesh still needed two off the last ball.

Pandya kept his cool and bowled outside off stump which the batsman missed. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni calmly collected the ball and sprinted across to dislodge the bail with the ball in his hands as the non-striker was well short of his ground.
