This innings of his against Australia in Perth will be high up there with one of his best. In the first ODI of a tour at the WACA, India chose to bat having won the toss and took full advantage to post a decent target of 309 runs.

Though they lost Dhawan early, Sharma managed to stay at the crease for more than close to 3 and half hours on his way to a remarkable 171 on the night. He remained not out having opened the batting and broke Sir Vivian Richard’s record of the highest score against Australia in Australia in this innings. However, it was not enough for India as George Bailly and Steven Smith scored hundreds to steal away an early lead in the series.
