On the very second day of 2016, Afghanistan lost their last six wickets for a mere nineteen runs and were all out for 58 while chasing 175 against Zimbabwe. As the year progressed, the fans witnessed some mesmerising performances like the 229 runs chased down by England against South Africa in the World T20, the 443 runs scored by England against Pakistan or the 759 runs scored by the Virat Kohli-led Indian team against in Chennai. But the year also witnessed some unbelievable batting collapses and with only a few days left before the current year ends, we at Sportzwiki look at some of the worst collapses of 2016:

5.  India vs Australia, Canberra, 20 Jan 2016:

From 277 for 1 to 323 all out:

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men went agonisingly close to winning the first three matches of the series but lacked the killer punch to register a victory. And the fourth match in Canberra once again exposed their weakness in closing out the match. Chasing Australia’s huge total of 349, the Indian team was cruising at one stage when Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli added 212 runs for the second wicket to take the visitors to 277 for 1 in the 38th over. With only 71 runs needed in more than 12 overs, the Indian team suffered a stunning collapse and lost their last nine wickets for only 46 runs.

Brief scores:

Australia 348 for 8(Finch 107, Warner 93, Smith 51, Ishant 4-77) beat India 323 (Dhawan 126, Kohli 106, Richardson 5-68) by 25 runs
