S. Sreesanth, a tainted former India fast bowler, may benefit from the change in leadership the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) as acting vice president TC Mathews showed confidence in his ability and suggested him to keep working hard.
Sreesanth has been trying vigorously to revive his career which has hit an immovable roadblock after the spot-fixing controversy. His involvement in the shameful IPL 2013 episode attracted a life ban from the BCCI. Ever since the cricketer has been making failed attempts at clearing his name and returning to cricket. However, all his efforts seem to be going in vain as BCCI continues to maintain a ‘no mercy’ attitude towards him.
All hopes, though, are not dashed for him. In what can be said as a highly positive development for Sreesanth, BCCI’s acting vice president TC Thomas, in a recent report published by Manorama online, has suggested that he can make a comeback if remains persistent. Giving the example of Ashish Nehra, who made a comeback to the national team in 2016 at the ripe age of 37, Mathews says that Sreesanth can also simulate Nehra given the fact that he is still 33.
He also asked the cricketer to formally request the BCCI. The apex cricket board has seen a change in the leadership after the Lodha Committee vs BCCI legal tussle resulted in the ouster of president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke. Both the positions remain vacant as of now with Vinod Rai acting as the interim chief of the 4 member committee.
