Former Indian legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar has opined that Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling attack can prove to be dangerous for the oppositions in this year’s IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the IPL in 2016 and will once again fight for the title in the 13th edition of the IPL. The captaincy has been again given to Australian David Warner under whom they won the title in 2016.
The SRH team has been training in the UAE for the past two weeks after completing their mandatory quarantine. The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played in the UAE this season. The change in venue was commanded because of the increasing cases of COVID-19 in India. The matches in IPL 2020 will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
Sunil Gavaskar hails SRH’s bowling attack
The 1983 World cup winning cricketer has hailed Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling depth. They have the likes of Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Siddharth Kaul and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bringing the experience to the squad and impressive young guns in Khaleel Ahmed, Billy Stanlake, and Sandeep Sharma. Gavaskar has his eyes on Basil Thampi who had some injury issues in 2019 and couldn’t perform at his best.
“Basil Thampi is also a good bowler. He had bowled really well in the 2018 IPL season. He did not bowl so well in the 2019 IPL because maybe he was not fully fit at that point in time. But this bowling attack can prove to be quite a dangerous one for the opposition. Their bowlers have under the radar bowling ability and they can surprise many teams in the tournament,” Sunil Gavaskar told Sports Tak.
“A very good opportunity for him to cement his place in the Indian team”: Sunil Gavaskar on Manish Pandey
Gavaskar stated that this IPL will be a great opportunity for an Indian batsman, Manish Pandey, to perform well and make a place in the Indian team. He said Manish has a lot of experience and is also a very good fielder.
“This IPL can prove to be a very good one for Manish Pandey. In 2014 when there were a few matches played here, he batted really well. Manish Pandey is a player with lots of experience and is a very good fielder. So this is a very good opportunity for him to cement his place in the Indian team,” Gavaskar said.
