Wriddhiman Saha, the Sunrisers’ Hyderabad wicket-keeper batsman, has said that the franchise has in it enough to find a potential candidate to replace David Warner- SRH’s captain,
“To the best of my knowledge there hasn’t been a decision on this yet but if he isn’t playing, we can replace him. And yes, it would be a setback initially if the captain is not around because a team is built with certain plans around the skipper but I think, we will be able to get around it,” he said while speaking at a media conference organised by the Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club (CSJC).
A decision on Warner is yet to be announced.
Cricket Australia will announce the verdict on the players involved, today (March 27) at 10:30 PM IST.
Meanwhile, it is sort of confirmed that Warner will not be leading the franchise in the coming IPL season.
As per the reports, it was Warner who planned to tamper the ball.
The responsibility to temper was given to Cameron Bancroft, who was caught while performing the job.
Steven Smith, Australia’s captain, has already stepped down from his post as the captain of Rajasthan Royals and Warner might also follow the suit.
Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise decided to play the waiting game and it said that it would wait for Cricket Australia’s decision on the matter before taking a decision on Warner.
Even if he is cleared to play IPL, the franchise would appoint a new captain.
As per the report, Warner, along with Smith, might be banned for a period of one year.
This will automatically rule out both the players out of IPL.
Along with them, other players involved in the ‘Sandpaper Gate’ are also expected to be banned.
Both, Warner and Smith, will depart for Australia after the verdict, the reports have suggested.
While Smith is already banned for the fourth Test, Warner had been withdrawn from the game.
Australia have already called in Matt Renshaw, who looks all set to open the innings in Johannesburg Test.
Joe Burns and George Bailey are still on the standby list and are expected to be flown in after the verdict will be delivered.
Should more players be banned, Cricket Australia will be forced to call in the two standby players so as to field 11 players.
Meanwhile, the fourth and the final Test match kicks off March 30 in Johannesburg
South Africa are leading the series by 2-1 and will have a chance to clinch the series against a depleted Australia.
Talking of IPL, Shikhar Dhawan seems to be the front-runner to take up the job of captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
