Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Tuesday (June 12) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming A team unofficial Test series against Bangladesh A, later this month.
Test opener Dimuth Karunatne will lead the side in a bid regain the match fitness. He is currently nursing a finger injury which he suffered in early May, eventually ruling him out of the Windies series.
However, the opening batsman will aim to get back to the squad for the South Africa series while hitting the ground running.
Meanwhile, seamer Dasun Shanaka will be his deputy throughout the tour against the rookie Bangladesh team.
The Islanders will play three four-dayers in Bangladesh. However, Karunaratne is likely to play only the first two matches. Because the third match would eventually clash with the first Test against the Proteas led by Faf du Plessis.
The squad also features Lahiru Thirimanne, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Lakshan Sandakan, and Danushka Gunathilaka.
Ergo, all of them have played Test cricket for Sri Lanka over the past year or so. They have also included fast bowler Shehan Madushanka, who recovered from injury recently.
Cox’s Bazar will host the first two four-day games while Sri Lanka to move to Sylhet for the third game.
A three-match One-day series is to follow in Sylhet, for which the selectors are expected to name a separate squad.
Concluding, the young guns could impress the national selectors before the much-awaited Test series against South Africa.
Here’s Sri Lanka A squad: Dimuth Karunaratne (capt., first two four-dayers only), Danushka Gunathilaka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Lahiru Thirimanne, Ashan Priyanjan, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka, Shammu Ashan, Manoj Sarathchandra, Prabath Jayasuriya, Lakshan Sandakan, Nishan Peiris, Shehan Madushanka, Nisala Tharaka, Dilesh Gunaratne.
