In 10 days from the end of an era in Sri Lankan cricket at the end of the CWC 2015 after Sangakkara and Jayawardane played their last game together, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and their fans had other issues off the field when the Minister of Sports Navin Dissanayake appointed an interim committee on Monday in Colombo. Three former international players which included former opener Sidath Wettimuny, Jayananda Warnaweera and Kapila Wijegunawardena were a part of the nine member team which was headed by the composed opening batsmen Sidath Wettimuny. The committee also included the likes of Prakash Schafter, Lucille Wijewardena, Kushil Gunasekera, Nuski Mohamed, Prasanna Jayawardena and Duminda Hulangamuva who are all experienced veterans. The sports minister Dissanayake, in a government gazette issued stated that the office bearers who were appointed as of Monday were cancelled and the interim committee above mentioned would be in function till an election is held or a further notice is issued in this regard. This is not the first time that the SLC has been run by politically influent people as we have seen in the past when it was run by politically appointed interim committee members. The ICC in 2012 made the rules tighter and passed a unanimous declaration for independently appointed administrations to be made mandatory which made the SLC appoint an independent administration. This made the SLC change for the first time since 2005. In this period the SLC was run by various interim committee members. The financial side of the SLC is also in bumps and is believed to be in debts. The Prime Minister Ranil Wicktenesinghe went on to say that the SLC is in millions of debts and owes a lot of money to state construction agencies.
Now if one goes by ICC rules than Sri Lanka cricket is in deep trouble becuase of the latest development and could face a suspension
Let’s hope the Sri Lankan Cricket a better and a brighter future.
