As per reports in the AFP, it is learnt that Danushka Gunathilaka’s suspension from all forms of cricket pending enquiry is related to a sexual assault which happened during the wee hours of Sunday.
The SLC has earlier suspended Gunathilaka with immediate effect. The survey wasn’t carried out. However, as per reports, the incident involves the acquaintance of the left-hander. A 26-year old British passport holder of Sri Lanka origin was accused of sexually assaulting a Norwegian woman.
The British citizen “is under arrest and we are continuing our investigations,” a police official was quoted as saying by AFP.”
A Norwegian tourist made the complaint of rape. It later got confirmed that there were no direct allegations against the opening batsman. Sri Lanka Cricket will launch its inquiry against the batsmen as he was alleged to breach the curfew.

Gunathilaka suspended from all forms of cricket on Sunday
On Sunday, SLC announced via a media release Danushka Gunathilaka is suspended from all forms of the game pending inquiry. He was learnt to have violated the ‘Player Code of Conduct’. SLC didn’t reveal the exact reasons.
“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) decided to suspend Danushka Gunathilaka from all forms of international cricket for breaching the ‘Player Code of Conduct’, pending inquiry.
“The decision to suspend the player was taken following an initial inquiry conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket after the team management reported that the player had violated the ‘Code of Conduct’.”
The latest incident isn’t the first time that Gunathilaka hs been suspended or reprimanded by Sri Lanka Cricket. The southpaw was handed a suspension from six limited-overs matches.
However, it was eventually reduced to three games back in October 2017. It was learnt that Danushka Gunathilaka had skipped a training session after partying at the wee hours. He officially got reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of ICC’s Code of Conduct. A demerit point subsequently got added to his disciplinary record.
