Sri Lanka looking to salvage some pride as they take on Pakistan in the fifth and final ODI
The fifth ODI between Sri Lanka and Pakistan is all set to begin tomorrow at Hambantota. After losing the series Sri Lanka will be eyeing to register a victory in the fifth and final ODI tomorrow. Pakistan after clinching the series have sealed their spot in the ICC champions trophy 2017.
In the most crucial 4th ODI Sri Lanka won the toss and without any second thoughts skipper Angelo Matthews decided to bat first. But things didn’t go according to plan as one would expected as Sri Lanka failed to make a huge total on the board. Sri Lanka managed to put just 256 runs in their 50 overs with Lahiru Thirimanne being the top scorer scoring 90 runs with some valuable contribution from Dilshan. Mohammed Irfan bagged three wickets in his quota of 10 overs.
Pakistan was off to a good start without losing any wicket in the opening powerplay and added 69 runs in 10 overs. After the dismissal of the Skipper Azhar Ali, Ahmed Shezad and Mohamed Hafeez put on a big partnership which turned out to be a match winning one. Ahmed Shezad missed out on a century scoring 95 and Mohamed Hafeez scored a solid 70 which turned the match in Pakistan’s favour. Later it was Shoaib Malik and Sarfraz Ahmed who took Pakistan home and they chased down the target of 256 in just 40.5 overs and registered a 7 wicket victory over the hosts.
However, Sri Lanka would be looking to finish the series on a high by winning the last match as a matter of pride to a struggling series. Pakistan after sealing their spot in the champions trophy has nothing to lose and they will be playing pressure free cricket.
