Sri Lanka may just be small nation but the number of athletes from both the genders is very high in the nation. However, Women Cricket in Sri Lanka is facing allegations of sex bribes within the system.

Sports ministry of the country yesterday admitted that the members of the national women cricket team were made to exchange sexual favors for the officials in order to keep a place in the squad.

A three membered committee, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Nimal Dissanayake, found out reports the officials in the cricket asked for sex in exchange for playing for the nation. The Sri Lanka Cricket board has already ordered an investigation into the matter in November but the new findings have put the board to shame.

Though the evidence was not clearly publicized, the committee stated that they found evidence of sexual harassment by the Cricket Board officials on the senior national squad members. They also mentioned that the sports ministry will take appropriate actions against the alleged people. These allegations were first reported in local newspaper Divaina. They published that a player was dropped from the squad because she refused to perform sexual favors.

The Sri Lankan Women Cricket is ranked sixth in the ICC rankings and has recently lost a one day series 1-3 to the West Indies.
