Sri Lanka will host heavyweights South Africa on a full tour in July. The tour will be comprised of two Test matches, five One-day Internationals, and one-off T20I match, the board has confirmed on Wednesday (April 4).

The Island nation is currently in a transition phase after losing some of their big names in the past four to five years. The team is still finding the current formula to win the games and with new coach Chandika Hathurusingha at the helm, the future looks bright.

Sri Lanka had found it hard to win against teams like Bangladesh in recent times. But the squad is full of youngsters, and they can improve their standard of cricket with more exposure to bigger teams.

Having hosted India and Bangladesh recently in Nidahas trophy, the hosts learnt a great deal from the series as they showed flashes of brilliance. However, they could not qualify for the final of the Tri-nation tournament.

Sri Lanka will now face South Africa in the first test match on 12th July at Galle and then in Colombo. Then they will play the ODI series from July 29th at Dambulla, Pallekele and the final ODI at Colombo again.

The one-off T20 international will be played at Colombo on August 14th, which will culminate the tour.

Sri Lankan Cricket In Transition

The test against South Africa will provide one more great opportunity for the youngsters to compete with the best.

The Sri Lankan cricket is currently in the period of transition and with a new coach and new selection committee, expect the team to be getting better with each series in the coming months.

They might not even win the series against South Africa, but they could compete and learn many things. This will help their cricket in the longer run.

However, let us hope for an exciting series in the Island nation this summer for hosts Sri Lanka.
