Bangladesh wicketkeeper Liton Das will miss the second Test against Sri Lanka due to a rib injury. In his absence, skipper Mushfiqur Rahim will take up the wicketkeeping responsibilities in the crucial Test at Colombo.
The 22-year-old suffered the injury after being struck by a ball on his left rib cage while batting in the nets on Monday (March 13). He continued to bat but missed training on Tuesday (March 14). Later, the scans confirmed a small fracture, which ruled him out of Bangladesh’s 100th Test.
Liton, who had made his debut against India in 2015, returned to Bangladesh’s playing XI in the first Test at Galle after a gap of almost 21 months. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who scored 5 and 35 in the first Test in addition to taking two catches, replaced Rahim behind the stumps. Rahim had been asked by the team management to give up the wicketkeeping duties in order to concentrate solely on batting but will wear the gloves once again.
Meanwhile, Liton’s injury will be a big blow for Bangladesh as they are looking to overturn a 1-0 series deficit after suffering a massive 259-run defeat in the series-opener. The visitors have already dropped their middle-order batsman Mahmudullah for the second and the final Test because of poor form.
