Sri Lanka vs England 2018: Hamstring Injury Rules Kusal Perera Out Of Series 1

Sri Lanka will miss the services of their batsman Kusal Perera for the remaining three One-Day Internationals against England.

A hamstring injury has ruled Kusal Perera out of the remainder of the home ODI series against England. The southpaw, who had scored 30 in the rain-affected second ODI, will be replaced by Sadeera Samarawickrama for the rest of the five-match series. Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed the news on Tuesday.

Missing another batsman will be another blow for the Islanders who are having a wretched time in ODIs. They recently exited the Asia Cup at the group stage after suffering two crushing losses against Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Prior to that, they had lost an home ODI series against South Africa. In 2017, they had suffered three 5-0 whitewashes in addition to losing an ODI series against Zimbabwe at home.

And they are trailing the ongoing series too after losing the second ODI by DLS method.

With Angelo Mathews not a part of the team, Kusal Perera’s absence will further weaken Sri Lanka’s fragile middle-order.

Meanwhile, England have also suffered an injury blow in the form of Liam Dawson. A side strain has ruled the spinner out of the remainder of the series.
