Sri Lanka vs India 2017, 1st Test: Fit-Again KL Rahul Joins Indian Team In Galle, Set To Play Second Test

Fit-again Indian batsman KL Rahul has joined team India in Galle. He has been declared fit and is all set to play the second Test match in Colombo.

The right-handed batsman, who was making his comeback to the international circuit, was not part of the team in the first Test due to viral fever. He stayed back in Colombo and didn’t travel with the team to Galle. There were doubts whether he will be fit for the second Test but now he has been given a green signal and is all set to play the next game.

With him coming into the side, Abhinav Mukund is all set to be dropped, as he failed to capitalise the opportunity provided to him in the first Test, where he could just score 12 runs in the first innings, whereas, Shikhar Dhawan went onto make most out of his chance and played an innings of 190 in the first innings, to all but fix his place for the second Test as well.

Before the start of the game, skipper Virat Kohli indicated that Mukund was the first choice as an opener and Dhawan only got a chance after Rahul missed the game but now he has jumped ahead of Mukund and might open the innings with Rahul after one year in the second Test match.

Meanwhile, Indian team holds a tight grip in the first Test where the bowlers have left hosts tottering on a score of 154/5 at the end of day one, with Sri Lanka still 446 runs behind.

There are high chances of Rangana Herath led side being asked to bat again on day 3 and chase the score again, if they fail to cross past the follow-on mark. They are already one batsman short in the form of Asela Gunaratne, which has added to the woes of the team. Also, he has been ruled out of the series.

On day three of the game, the Indian bowlers will look to pack Lanka batting order in the first session and then look to scalp other ten wickets on the same day.
