India registered a comprehensive victory against Sri Lanka by 304 runs in the opening test in Galle to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series.
It was a thoroughly professional performance by the visitors and the Lankans were outplayed in all the three departments of the game. The Indian batsmen were assured and the Indian bowlers bowled exceptionally well especially on a pitch which didn’t have too much assistance to either the Pacers or the spinners.

Captain Virat Kohli after failing in the 1st innings came back strongly and smashed his 17th Test century to set Sri Lanka an unrealistic victory target in the 4th innings. The century also made him the only player to boast of 50+ average in all three formats of the game, as of now. Taking to his Twitter handle, Virat shared a picture with two other centurions from the game, Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara and lauded them for a great win.

Dhawan who made a comeback in place of KL Rahul looked in ominous touch from the outset and made full use of the reprieve he got while batting on 31. He attacked the Sri Lankan bowlers with disdain and got India off to a sensational start. He was smashing boundaries at will and made things pretty difficult for the visitors. His brilliant inning of 190 was laced with 31 hits to the fence.
Mr Dependable, Cheteshwar Pujara also applied himself brilliantly and reached yet another Test century. He shared a brilliant stand of 253 runs for the 2nd wicket with Dhawan and played according to his strengths. He struck some delightful shots en route to his 153 which contained 13 fours.
Ravindra Jadeja bagged three wickets each in both the innings while Ashwin also finished with the same number of wickets in the 2nd innings.
