Sri Lanka vs India 2017, 3rd ODI: Watch – Rohit Sharma Ends Kusal Mendis’ Innings with a Stunner
The buildup of the ongoing One-Day International series against Sri Lanka was dominated with comments coming in from the Indian camp, emphasising the need of turning the Men in Blue in a world-class fielding unit.
Even before the ongoing third ODI in Pallekele, fielding coach R Sridhar had lauded the team’s fielding qualities before insisting that captain Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri have been urging the players to improve.
“We have affected probably the most number of run outs in Tests over the last few years. In ODI cricket, we have been a very high-intensity fielding unit. Odd errors happen, that’s the nature of the beast, but we pride in our intensity and energy, nd that comes right from the core group of Virat and Ravi Bhai (coach Ravi Shastri),” he had said.
“They always feel the ten best fielders along with the wicketkeeper will walk on to the field,” he had added.
Well, while only time will tell how better a fielding unit Team India will become, one thing is clear that the work has already begun and the latest catch taken by Rohit Sharma in the slip cordon proves that. After dismissing Niroshan Dickwella cheaply, Bumrah also accounted for the highly-rated Kusal Mendis to leave the Islanders reeling at 28 for two.
Bumrah bowled one outside the off stump which Mendis tried to play without any footwork. Not surprisingly, he ended up edging it to the slip cordon.
However, there was still a lot of work to do, as the ball was looking destined to evade the fielders before Rohit Sharma made a full-length dive to his right to complete a stunning grab.
Here is a clip of that catch:
