Sri Lanka vs India 2017, 5th ODI: Virat Kohli Lauds Side after Inflicting Whitewash

Is there anything this young, energetic and ruthless Indian outfit is not capable of? After all, they have made an away ODI series whitewash win look like a mere formality and crushed Sri Lanka with utmost ease.

Not many teams in the past have had the audacity to boss Sri Lanka in such a ruthless way in their backyard, but India being India, did that with complete straightforwardness. At the helm of affairs was none other than skipper marvellous Virat Kohli. The batting sensation has amassed runs for just fun, and his leadership has been pin point accurate. At number three, he has bossed the arena to such an extent that the otherwise hostile Sri Lankan fans have been forced to chant his name, every time he is out in the middle.

The series victory for India though wasn’t just about Kohli, and it was a complete team affair. In four of the five games, the bowlers did the majority of the work, restricting Sri Lanka to under par scores. Kohli reiterated the same in the post match presentation, after whitewashing Sri Lanka.

After completing his third ODI series win in a whitewash, Kohli mentioned the need to win games consistently.

“It is quite amazing to win the series 5-0. I always thought the limited overs were going to be tougher but credit to the guys. We have played some good cricket. The talk was about not winning more than three games in limited overs at a stretch,” said Kohli.

“But now we have 5. In fact, 6. We won one in West Indies as well. Hopefully, we can take this form and play well against Australia. Lovely, hospitable people here. They love you; they appreciate what you do. Very chilled out beautiful place. They are always smiling but never intrude on your privacy. We will definitely like to come here again,” said a delighted Kohli.
