Sri Lanka Vs India 2017 - Enjoying My Batting Right Now: Shikhar Dhawan (MOTS) 1

For Shikhar Dhawan, the series against Sri Lanka could have well been his final opportunity in white clothing. Originally, the southpaw wasn’t picked in the squad and was overlooked for the otherwise reliable duo of M. Vijay and KL Rahul.

As a matter of fact, opener Abhinav Mukund too was named in the side ahead of him. However, an injury to Vijay meant that an opening was created for Dhawan.

As fate would have it, the southpaw grabbed his chances with both hands, as he began the series with a thunderous knock of 190, which decimated Sri Lanka. Unfortunate to miss out in the second Test with a knock of 35, Dhawan made proper amends at Kandy, scoring another rapid ton to bat Sri Lanka out of the game.

It wasn’t surprising to see Dhawan being named the Man of the series for his superb batting displays. Post winning the award, the opener mentioned that for now, he wasn’t thinking too much about the future and was just enjoying his batting.

When the left-hander was named, as Man of the series, he danced his way towards the trophy.

“Before this series, I was in Hong Kong enjoying the holiday,” said Dhawan. “Unfortunately one of our openers was unfit and I got a chance to come over here and by the grace of God things went very well for me and got the Man of the Series award. I am enjoying my batting right now.”

“I enjoy playing this was, this is my natural game (playing positive cricket). I have to keep performing well because we have tough competition for all the slots, so that is a great sign for Indian cricket. It keeps me on my toes,” he added.
