India leads the five-match One day series against Sri Lanka two-nil. After a dull one sided first ODI, the second One Day International proved to be a little more competitive, even though India fought back courtesy MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to win the match. A spirited performance by Akila Dhananjaya who picked up 6-54 in his nine overs went in vain, as the Lankans were unable to consolidate and win the match.
Though the Indian team is the favorite to win the third match of the series, the Lankans will look to build on the momentum gained and take it forward in the third ODI. There will be various milestones to be achieved in the third ODI for the players individually and for the team as a whole.
Let’s have a look at second ODI’s achievements and the records that can be achieved in the third ODI.
India achieved their second ODI victory at the Pallekele cricket stadium, maintaining a 100 percent win record at the venue. Kohli is just 41 runs away from becoming the highest run getter in 2017 followed by Faf Du Plessis and Joe Root.
One of the biggest achievements for a wicketkeeper, MS Dhoni is just one stumping away from his 100th stumping in ODI’s. Dhoni needs to score 12 more runs for to become the fourth highest run scorer for India in ODI’s. He will surpass Mohammed Azharuddin on the all time list.
For Sri Lanka, Angelo Mathews is just nine runs shy of scoring 1000 runs against India. Lasith Malinga needs two more wickets to reach 300 wickets. He will become the second pacer for Sri Lanka to achieve the feat and the fourth Sri Lankan Bowler overall.
Kapugedera will be the fourth Sri Lankan to lead the side since 2016.
Most importantly if India wins the third ODI it will be India fifth consecutive series win under Virat Kohli, the third series win overall.
