- Ajinkya Rahane:
Rahane, who gave his ODI career a new shape of life in the Caribbean, could find himself out of favour once the ODI series in Sri Lanka commences. With regular opener Rohit Sharma returning to his designated spot, Rahane will become the backup opener for the team. As fate would have it, however, for that role too, he has intense competition, as if not used in the middle order,
KL Rahul could become the backup opener. Recently, chief selector MSK Prasad mentioned that the ever-reliable pair of Dhawan and Rohit would open in all five games in the series, thereby making it incredibly difficult for Rahane to find a spot in the XI.
The middle order role hasn’t suited Rahane that well either so all he has is the top order option to find a slot. In all, chances of the Mumbai batsman getting a game looks bleak.
