Sri Lanka vs India 2017: Mohammed Shami Says India Will Take the Momentum into the ODI Series 1

After inflicting a series whitewash on Sri Lanka in the three-match Test series, team India speedster Mohammed Shami conceded that it was a team effort and the side would look to continue their dominance in the ODI series against the Lankans starting on Sunday.

Shami bowled brilliantly during the Test series and finished with 10 wickets to become India’s leading fast-bowler, as India completed a clean sweep for the first time in an overseas series comprising of thre or more Tests.

Shami has been out of the limited-overs team and despite being a part of the Champions Trophy squad, he didn’t get a single game as Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah was preferred ahead of him.

He is definitely in the future scheme of things so he has been given rest for this series to make sure that the pacer remains fit and healthy for a long home season which will be followed by long and gruelling away fixtures one after the other.

“It’s very good to win such a rare series. We will look to continue the momentum and perform well. It’s a team effort and we work in a unit. We are like a family and enjoy each other’s success,” Shami was quoted by the Mid-Day as saying.

Courtesy their thumping performance all through the series, India consolidated their position and went 15 points clear of South Africa who is currently in the 2nd position with 110 points.

“There’s a good understanding among us. We know each other’s strengths,” Shami said.

On coach Shastri, the fast bowler said,

“I’ve already said the support staff and the team unit is one of the best.” He will be getting the much-needed rest to keep himself fit for the more important series to come.

“I try to give my 100 per cent and work on my strength which is swing and bowling reverse. But at the moment, I will spend time with my family and take rest. Then I will start practice,” Shami signed off.
