Sri Lanka Vs India 2017 - Ravindra Jadeja Gets Etched In Record Books 1

In this modern era of Indian cricket that has taken gigantic strides under the leadership of Virat Kohli, there have been a few distinct faces, which have greatly contributed to India’s success. All rounder Ravindra Jadeja is one of those for India, and with every passing Test, the Saurashtra lad is simply maturing as a player. For any stakeholder of Indian cricket, this is heartening news, given the fact that Jadeja can use all this experience once the side begins its next round of overseas tours.

The second Test at Colombo against Sri Lanka continued to remain an absolute mismatch. If Galle was host to a one sided drubbing, this was even worse as the Sri Lankan batsmen capitulated on the third morning to hand India a first innings lead of 439.

All it took was a solitary session for the Indian bowlers to take the remaining 8 Sri Lankan wickets and wrap things up within no time. All bowlers chipped in with decent contributions, with a lead spinner and all rounder R. Ashwin picking up his 26th five wicket haul, the most for an Indian behind Anil Kumble. While doing so, Ashwin also went past the tally of off spin great Harbhajan Singh, who had 25 five wicket hauls.

However, one person who entered multiple record books on the second morning was Ravindra Jadeja. The flamboyant all rounder, with his two wickets, got to 150 Test career wickets, in just his 60th innings as a bowler. This means Jadeja now has a remarkable average of 2.5 wickets per innings.

With 150 Test scalps, Jadeja also registered his 100 Test wicket under Virat Kohli, and this just speaks of the pair, who are taking India’s Test side to heights that haven’t been scaled before. After Ashwin, Jadeja became just the second bowler to take 100 Test wickets under the leadership of Kohli.

Apart from that, for a left arm bowler, Jadeja raced to the 150 Test wickets milestone the quickest in terms of matches, leaving behind former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson.
