The Board of Control for Cricket in India, on Thursday (August 3), announced that Rohit Sharma will leave the Test squad for a day to undergo routine medical checkup in Mumbai. The Mumbai star, who is not a part of the playing eleven of the ongoing Test, will leave Sri Lanka on Thursday and will join the team a day later.
“The BCCI medical team confirms that batsman Mr. Rohit Sharma will undergo a scheduled medical check up, as a follow up after his recent surgery,” said the BCCI in a statement.
“There is no health or fitness concern and Mr. Rohit Sharma will fly to Mumbai later today i.e. August 3, 2017, and will rejoin the team tomorrow i.e. August 4, 2017,” it added.
The 30-year old, who returned to international action during the ICC Champions Trophy, had a thigh operation in London last year after he suffered an injury in the final ODI against New Zealand. The injury had ruled him out of the whole home-season before he returned to action during the Indian Premier League.
The right-handed batsman, nevertheless, hit the ground running after recovering from the injury. After leading Mumbai Indians to a record third IPL title, he starred for India in the Champions Trophy, finishing the tournament as its second-highest run-getter with 304 runs at an average of 76.
Afterwards, he was given a much-needed rest during the limited-overs series in West Indies. He was then named in the Test team for the Sri Lanka series but is still waiting to get a chance in the playing eleven.
Meanwhile, riding on centuries from Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, India recovered from a precarious position to end day one of the second Test on 344 for 3. India were reeling at 133 for 3 before Rahane and Pujara put the world number one Test team in a commanding position with an unbeaten partnership of 211 runs. Pujara, who had scored 153 in the first Test, was unbeaten on 128 while Rahane was playing on 103.
