Sri Lanka vs India 2017: Series Loss is Very Painful to Me – Sanath Jayasuriya

Sanath Jayasuriya, the Chairman of selectors of Sri Lankan cricket team, has said the series whitewash against India is very painful for him. His comments have come after Sri Lanka lost the third and last Test against India at Pallekele, where Jayasuriya was in attendance,
“It is very painful for me. Losing a home series is always tough and especially to lose in this fashion. We have done well against India at home over the years and we need to find a way out of this now.”The players are down at the moment and we need to support them and give confidence. It’s up to them then to come up with answers and more importantly how fast can they come up with those answers. The coaching staff needs to come up with plans as to how we can address this issue,” Jayasuria told Cricbuzz.

Even before the start of the series, the Indian team was the favourites to win the contest. Apart from that, injuries added to the woes of the hosts, which further bridged the gap between the two sides.
The first jitter came when Asela Gunaratne was ruled out of the series due to a thumb injury, which he suffered on day one of the first Test match. Suranga Lakmal was too ruled out after the first game and then came to the biggest disappointment when Nuwan Pradeep was ruled out due to a hamstring injury. He was the star of Lankan bowling line-up in the first Test but injury marked his exit from the series.
To make the matter worse, team management decided to rest Rangana Herath for the third Test, after accepting that they can’t do anything special in the last game.

The only thing now Sri Lanka can do is provide some competition to India in the ODI and T20I series but there as well, only a miracle can save the hosts, as looking at their recent form, Sri Lanka is expected to again suffer a defeat, especially keeping in mind the series loss against minnows Zimbabwe.
