The 23-year-old arrived at the crease when India were 322 for six on the first day and soon the team was reduced to 339 for seven with Wriddhiman Saha dismissed very early on the following morning.
With just tail-enders remaining to bat alongside him, Pandya forged useful partnerships before launching a stunning assault on the hosts to take India to a commanding total of 487. He added 62 runs for the eighth wicket with Kuldeep Yadav and a quick fire 66 with Umesh Yadav for the last wicket.
Heย reached the hundred off 86 balls with seven fours and seven sixes and took just 25 balls to move from fifty to hundred. He went berserk after the fall of the ninth wicket and left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara faced the wrath, as he was hit for a staggering 26 runs in an over. Pandya’s assault came to an end when he was caught out for 108.
Delighted with Pandya’s stunning century, Shikhar Dhawan, who too has scored a century in the match, congratulated the all-rounder before saying that he enjoyed the ‘Daddy D’ pose from the Baroda star and KL Rahul. Dhawan was seen sporting the ‘V’ sign after completing his century and KL Rahul and Pandya also followed suit during the course of their innings, making the Delhi star happy.
“First of many more to come my boy @hardikpandya7 ??Enjoyed our Daddy D pose @klrahul11,??????”ย the swashbuckling opener tweeted.
