After weeks of turmoil and controversies that erupted after Anil Kumble’s shocking resignation as Team India head coach, Virat Kohli & Co. started their journey under new head coach Ravi Shastri in a best-possible way, thrashing Sri Lanka by 304 runs in the first Test in Galle.

The team was severely criticised especially captain Virat Kohli after Kumble decided to end his spell with the team in an unceremonious fashion even after tasting immense success in his one-year spell. His acrimonious exit had caused a stir in the Indian cricket and the drama finally ended earlier this month when former team director Shastri was roped in as Kumble’s replacement.
The episode is a thing of the past now and the team seems to have moved on quite well, as it thrashed Sri Lanka to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
After taking a huge 309-run lead in the first innings, India, led by Kohli’s brilliant 103*, declared their innings on 240 for three, setting Sri Lanka an improbable target of 550. In reply, the hosts were bowled out inside a day for just 245. The 304-run win is India’s biggest away win in terms of runs while it is Sri Lanka’s heaviest defeat.

Following the win, several players including Kohli took to social media and posted photos and videos to express their delight and Rohit Sharma also followed suit. The right-handed batsman, who did not play the match, took to Instagram to post a photo of his teammates enjoying a round of FIFA.
“Victory tastes as good when we play FIFA ?#PostMatchFifaSessions #Mates,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, the second match of the three-match series will start from August 6 at Colombo.
