As Team India will walk out to take on Sri Lanka in the fourth One-Day International on Thursday (August 31), former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will add yet another feather to his illustrious cap.
The upcoming match will be the 300th ODI appearance for the World Cup-winning captain, as he gets ready to join India’s elite 300-club including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh.
The most successful skipper of the country, Dhoni has been a brilliant servant for Indian cricket over the last one decade or so. In addition to reaching unprecedented heights as the captain of the team, Dhoni has also left his mark with his incredible prowess with the bat. Arguably the finest chaser the game has ever seen, Dhoni has amassed 9608 runs at an impressive average of 51.93 in ODIs so far and is looking good to add more to the tally.
Meanwhile, the 36-year-old has also managed to shut his critics up with a couple of match-winning performances in the ongoing series. After bailing India out in the second ODI when the Men in Blue were reeling at 131 for seven in pursuit of 231, the former captain scored a brilliant 67 and added 157 runs with Rohit Sharma to help India win the third ODI and clinch the five-match series.
So as the legendary players are getting ready to join the ‘300 club’, here are some of the congratulatory messages for him from the cricketing fraternity:
