The tour of Sri Lanka was probably the biggest success for Virat Kohli in his captaincy career so far. The Indian skipper became the first captain in the history of the game, to whitewash an opposition in all formats of the game away from home in one single tour. To add to that, Kohli’s brilliance with the bat stood out, as combining Tests and the limited overs, the Delhi dynamite scored three fluent centuries.
The one off T20I at Colombo recently marked the end of all formalities as India sealed the run chase in some style, with half centuries from Kohli and Manish Pandey driving the chase. During his flamboyant knock of 82, Kohli went past a few revered milestones.
The Indian captain got to an elusive landmark, as he now has 15,000 runs in international cricket, combining all formats of international cricket. The icing on the cake remains that Kohli is now the quickest batsman to get to 15,000 international runs, as he got to the mark in just 333 innings, bettering the tally of Hashim Amla, who got there in 336 innings.
Another feather in Kohli’s hat lies in the fact that he is the only batsman in the exclusive club also to average more than 50 while having 15,000 international runs.
Post the win last night, Kohli was jubilant as he lauded the team for a successful tour.
“Credit to all the hard work the boys have put in. Evidence of the fact how hungry the players are in Indian cricket, and how the bench strength is coming along so beautifully. Very, very happy as a captain. I look to back my strengths in T20 cricket, look to play good cricketing shots. It’s something I’ve practiced very hard to mould my game to all formats, because I want to play all games for India,” said Kohli.
Meanwhile, after another brilliant chase by Virat Kohli, ICC tweeted a special name for the India captain.
