India captain Virat Kohli has played a gem of an innings against Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI, as he put his side on course to reach a mammoth total with a quick century.

Having opted to bat first, India lost Dhawan very early, but Virat Kohli along with Rohit Sharma managed to add a quick double hundred stand for the second wicket. In the process, the India skipper managed to achieve his 29th ODI hundred making him the third highest century maker in ODI history just behind Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar.

The 28-year-old has scored an impressive 131 runs in just 96 balls before being caught out in the deep cover position to become the 300th scalp for Malinga in ODI cricket. He hit an unbelievable 17 fours and two sixes in his innings, as he took charge to the Sri Lankan bowlers on a batting pitch in Colombo.

However, he also managed to score his 17th international century as an India skipper making him the captain with most centuries for the country. He has surpassed former India legend Sourav Ganguly, who managed to score 16 centuries for India as a captain during the 2000-2005 period.

Virat Kohli has also become the fastest to reach 29 ODI hundreds and is just one hundred shy of equaling Ricky Ponting’s tally of 30 ODI centuries. He would be hoping to reach more milestones in the coming months, as he has already been termed by many the greatest batsman of this generation.

Considering his age and form, it might not be long before we compare Kohli with the very best in the history of cricket, as he is making batting look so easy. However, the fans would be massively disappointed, as he failed to convert his massive hundred into double hundred, considering he was out before 30-over mark.
