Sri Lanka vs India 2017: Virat Kohli Now Holds Record for Most Series Whitewash Wins

In no time, Virat Kohli is establishing a never seen before outlook of the Indian team. It’s barely been half a year since he has taken over as the limited overs captain, but it seems that his efforts have been way more than just the time span.
The brand of cricket what India play these days was never seen before from the Men in Blue, as they seem reminiscent of that vintage Australian side of the mid-2000’s, which decimated oppositions. With the win in Colombo in the fifth and final ODI, Kohli and India created history, as the men in blue became the first side ever to whitewash Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. More than that, it marked the third instance of Kohli whitewashing a team in an ODI series, the most for an Indian captain.
In the past, under Kohli’s leadership, India had whitewashed Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe in 2013. That was followed by a whitewash of Sri Lanka in India in 2014. And now, doing it in Sri Lanka’s backyard, Kohli did create some history. The other Indian captains with whitewash series wins are MS Dhoni with two, and Gautam Gambhir with one
Post the win, Kohli was full of smiles as he lauded the team for a fine performance.
“It is quite amazing to win the series 5-0. We always thought the limited overs were going to be much more challenging but credit to the guys. Jassi has been outstanding; spinners has been outstanding. Hardik is chipping in. We have played some good cricket. The talk was about not having won more than three games in a row in limited overs. But now we have 5,” said Kohli.
