Sri Lanka vs India 2017: Virat Kohli Thanks Barmy Army for Bestowing him with Honour

The last 18 months have belonged to just one man across all forms of the game – Virat Kohli. In this phase, the India captain has amassed records just for fun, with his willow wielding its magic across all backdrops.

In the very stage, Kohli has amassed as many as four Test double centuries, and his reign in the shorter forms continues, unhindered.

Kohli however, hit his absolute peak as a batsman during India’s home Test series against England in late 2016. In the five match Test series, Kohli put up a show of unparalleled brilliance, as he followed up his knock of 167 at Vizag, with his career best score of 235 at Mumbai. Those knocks came against England, with the Barmy Army in full attendance.

Considered to be England’s 12thman with their sheer support for the side, the group recently bestowed Kohli with a rare, prestigious honour recently. The Barmy Army named Kohli as their International Cricketer of the year.

Upon being bestowed with the honour, Kohli was quick to thank the group for showering him with praises, and also mentioned about his excitement for India’s tour of England, scheduled for next year.

“I am really honoured to be chosen by the Barmy Army as the international player of the year,” said Kohli. “It feels nice to be recognized by the fans of other countries and cricket lovers from all over the globe which makes you feel great as a cricketer. Especially from the Barmy Army who made my life hell in England in 2014 when I had a tough time.”

“They always support their team very passionately, and I am sure it will be a challenge when we go to England. But to have received such an honour from them makes me feel proud of playing for my nation. I want to thank you all once again from the bottom of my heart and look forward to catching up with all of you when we come to England next year. Hopefully, we can have some interaction of the field also, cheers thank you,” Kohli added.
