Sri Lanka vs India 2017: Witnessed a Jail Break in Kandy – Ravi Shastri
The second One-Day International between India and Sri Lanka at Kandy on Thursday (August 24) looked as good as over after Indian openers Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan added 109 runs for the first wicket while chasing a modest total of 237.
Considering India and Sri Lanka’s current forms, nobody was giving the hosts even an outside chance of making a match out of the contest.
However, Akila Dananjaya had other plans, as he ran through India’s batting order to leave them reeling at 131 for seven from 109 for zero. The off-spinner clean bowled Kedar Jadhav, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul in addition to dismissing Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel for single-digit scores to help his side claw its way back into the game.
However, the valiant effort from the spinner went in vain, as MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar pulled off a victory from the jaws of defeat by sharing an unbeaten partnership of 100 runs.
The win was nothing less than a heist and India head coach Ravi Shastri came up with a perfect term for the miraculous win. The former India all-rounder took it to Twitter to call the win in Kandy a jail break.
“Witnessed a jail break in Kandy exactly half an hour to midnight,” Shastri tweeted.
