Want to be a professional cricketer?
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first in the third One-Day International against at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele.
Chamara Kapugedera will lead the hosts in the game after Upul Tharanga was handed a two-match ban due to slow over-rate in the second ODI.
Here is what the captains said:
We would have bowled first. No need to change the plans that we have thought about. In the first two games as well; first was convincing, last game we got rocked a little bit in the middle overs by a guy we hadn’t seen before. It was a good challenge and learning for us. We wanted to have a total on the board and chase. We were quite relaxed, you can’t really do much from the outside and backed the guys out in the middle. None better than who has played close to 300 ODIs. It will be MS’s 299th ODI today. Bhuvi is a customer. We knew these guys will find a way to come out of the situation. It was a bizzare game with two 100+ partnerships. No changes at all.
We are going to bat first today. We fought really well in the last game and we could not finish the last game. We have all spoken about it and made plans for it. Upul is obviously suspended. So Thirimanne comes in.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka needs to win the match to keep the five-match series alive which India is leading 2-0. They also need to win the game to keep alive their hopes of securing an automatic spot for the next World Cup. Currently, ranked eighth in the ODIs, the Islanders need to win two of the remaining three games to ensure a direct qualification for the 2019 World Cup.
India, on the other hand, will be looking to seal the series and will be keen to put up a strong batting show after the second ODI.
Here are the playing eleven of both the teams:
