The 3rd ODI between Sri Lanka and Pakistan started with it being the decider and the series levelled at 1-1. The match was expected to be a tight one, after Sri Lanka levelled the series in the 2nd ODI. Pakistan won the 1st ODI in style.
But Pakistan team had some other ideas . Their batting display just proved why Pakistan has struggled to show any sort of consistency in the International arena. Their batting is unpredictable, on a high in the 1st ODI and lower than the low in the 3rd ODI.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first and what followed will never please any captain. Pakistan lost it’s 1st wicket at the score of 4 runs when Dhammika Prasad had Sharjeel Khan caught by Perera. The much talented Ahmed Shehzad followed him soon. Hafeez soon followed them and it was left to Misbah and Fawad Alam to provide some stability to the scorecard. This partnership was the only one which looked comfortable but then the most shocking aspect of the innings happened, a run out when you are trying to build an innings, just did it the Pakistani way.
Fawad Alam scored runs in 73 balls and was the lone fighter and remained not out. Shahid Afridi just scored 2 runs, Umar Akmal also scored just 7 and the hero of the 1st ODI, Shoaib MAqsood also scored just 7 runs and the innings folded for 102 runs.
Thisara Perera was the star with the ball and picked up 4 wickets and Dhamikka Prasad picked up 2wickets and apart from Angelo Matthews.
Sri lanka had no trouble in chasing down the target . The revised target was 101 due to the rain but eventually the revised target ended up being less than the original one.
Pakistan were never in the game and could never dictate terms. Sri Lanka lost it’s first wicket when Tharanga was bowled by Md. Irfan . Kumar Sangakkara had an odd day and was dismissed for just 2 runs. Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara then led their team to victory and just before the target was reached , Jayawardene was undone by the mystery spinner Saeed Ajmal. Dilshan was the lone man to score a fifty in this match.
Thisera Perera won both Man of the Match and Man of the Series awards and silenced his critics. Of late, he was not a regular member of the squad and this will surely boost his chances
