India v SL 2017: Video – Sri Lankan Players Mock Virat Kohli’s Declaration
Seemingly, Sri Lankan players on Sunday afternoon (December 2) laughed-off Virat Kohli’s declaration after the visiting side was short of a player during the second session of the third and final Test at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi.
Owing to the plenty of drama, Sri Lankan players complained about the breathing problem owing to the acrid air while wearing the masks; the match was further halted in the second session when Lahiru Gamage was seen struggling.
Whether it was a tactical ploy or something else, but it infuriated Virat Kohli, who straightaway told Wriddhiman Saha and Ravindra Jadeja to return to the pavilion.
Soon after Kohli decided to declare the innings, Sri Lanka spinner Lakshan Sandakan, who replaced injured Rangana Herath burst into laughter which further saw wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella laughing out during the conversation with his teammates.
The incident took place when Lankan players started a long way back towards the dressing room after India finished on 536 for seven in 127.5 overs.
However, it’s pertinent to mention the match was stopped for the third time when Lions were one-short of a player, as Herath was already down with the back injury, before fast bowlers in the form of Suranga Lakmal and Gamage left the field after failing to coup with the body.
Interestingly, Sri Lankan trainer Nick Lee was seen donning the white jersey at the boundary side, shortly before the innings declaration came from Indian camp.
After the lunch session, Lankan players caught the attention of many when they were wearing the masks which didn’t sit well with Indian camp.
So much so, head coach Ravi Shastri made a brief entry onto the field – to discuss the matter with on-field umpire Nigel Llong and Joel Wilson.
In the last quarter of the ongoing year, Delhi air quality was declared unhealthy, as Lankan players felt uneasy which irked the spectators inside the stadium.
At tea, Sri Lanka was struggling at 18 for two in six overs; trailing by 518 runs.
Here’s the interesting video when Lakshan Sandakan and Niroshan Dickwella mock Indian skipper:
