Sri Lankan President offers Kumar Sangakkara High Commissioner post in UK
On the day when Kumar Sangakkara played his last international innings of his life the iconic cricketer was offered the High Commissioner post to United Kingdom.
Sangakkara’s farewell emotional one. His family, friends, fans and even the President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena was present.
While 37 year great batsman ended his one innings of his life before he thinks about the next retirement plan Sri Lanka President offered him the prestigious post.
Srilanka Cricket president Jayantha Dharmadasa organised a special farewell ceremony for this great batsman after India won the second Test to level the three -Test series 1-1.
Sri Lankan President Sirisena hailed the cricketer’s contribution to the country on the off the field.
“He has been a great face for our country and it gives me immense pleasure in offering him the post of High Commissioner to the UK,” President Sirisena said.
Thousands of fans at P.Sara Oval received the offer with great joy. Though, Sangakkara, the gentleman , smiled his gratitude, but has not said anything about the offer.
The Sri Lankan President is the only man who hailed Sangakkara 15 years long career besides Indian batting great Sunil Gavaskar, who is in Sri Lanka as a commentator, hailed his illustrious journey in international cricket.
“It has been a great pleasure watching you play all these years and I truly wish you the best for the future. On a light note, I also extend an invitation to join us in the former cricketer’s club,” said Gavaskar, much to the loud and the youthful amusement of Sangakkara.
