Sridharan Sriram Makes A Comeback To Australia’s Coaching Staff For India Tour

Sridharan Sriram has been appointed as Australia’s spin consultant for their tour of India, starting February 23.

The former Indian player, who played eight ODIs, has been a regular part of Australia’s coaching staff whenever the team has been to sub-continent. In 2015, he toured India with Australia A squad that played two unofficial Tests. Sriram was then appointed as the consultant for Bangladesh tour, which was eventually called off. He was again with the Aussie squad for the T20 World Cup 2016 and the tour of Sri Lanka.

“As always, I consider it a great honour to be given the opportunity to work with the Australian men’s team once again. I really look forward to adding value and contributing to a winning cause, against a quality opposition.

“India is regarded as one of the toughest places to tour as a Test playing nation and I am looking forward to the challenge,” said an elated Sriram.

Sriram will be first travelling to Dubai with few of the Australian players for the training camp before the start of the Test series.

Cricket Australia high-performance manager, Pat Howard said Sriram knows the team pretty well and the conditions in India too.

“Sriram brought continuity in the role. Sri has worked with us on a number of occasions now all across our pathway system and he is currently in Dubai with our Under-16 team providing his expertise on sub-continental conditions. He knows our players very well and has a wealth of knowledge on the conditions that our players will face in India,” he said.

Not just Sriram, Cricket Australia has also appointed the England spinner Monty Panesar as their spin bowling consultant for India series. The appointment has been done in wake of his performance during England’s tour to India in the 2012/13, where he scalped 17 wickets and made Indian batsmen dance to his tunes.

The Test series between India and Australia starts on February 23 with the first match to be played in Pune.
