If reports are to be believed in, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sold the rights to broadcast cricket at home in India on television and digital platforms to Star Sports India Pvt Ltd for a whopping sum of INR 6,138 crore, from 2018 to 2023.
This comes out to be 59 percent more than the previous cycle of rights, between 2012-2018, which was sold at INR 3,851 crores.
The cricketing board has not yet revealed the company which bagged the rights at the recently held E-auctions.
The other participants in the auctions were network giants Sony Pictures Network India, and Reliance.
Star Sports India, additionally, landed with the lucrative IPL deal worth over INR 16,000 crores last year.
According to report published by ESPNcricinfo, the average cost per match for the Indian cricket rights sold on Thursday is about INR 60 crores which is higher than the average cost of per IPL game for the 2018-22 period – INR 54.5 crores.
