Stat Attack: Bowlers With Most Expensive Spells In Twenty20 Internationals

While there is absolutely no denying the fact that records can be great for any cricketer, they can also at times be unwanted and who will know it better than Ireland’s fast-bowler Barry McCarthy.

The 24-year-old conceded 69 runs in his four overs against Afghanistan, the most expensive figures in T20Is. The right-arm pacer perhaps should have realized it was going to be a bad day at the office for him as he was hit for two boundaries and a six in the very first over. In his next over, he conceded 12 runs but all hell broke loose when he came to bowl his last two overs towards the end of the innings. With Mohammad Nabi looking in red-hot form, McCarthy conceded as many as 43 runs in his last two overs.

Nabi was finally dismissed on the last ball of the innings but before that he had played a whirlwind knock of 89 off only 30 balls to help his team post a massive 233/8 in the final match of the three-T20I series. In reply, Ireland fired on all cylinders right from the start and raced to 91/1 after the end of six overs. William Porterfield’s men kept the score-board ticking but eventually fell short by 28 runs.

Meanwhile, McCarthy broke former South African bowler Kyle Abbott’s record of conceding most runs in a T20I game. Abbott had conceded 68 runs against the West Indies when the Darren Sammy-led side chased down South Africa’s total of 231 runs at Johannesburg in 2015. And so, we have a look at the list of top 10 bowlers who have conceded most runs in a Twenty20 International.
