Stat Attack: Highest Score By An Indian Captain In Tests 1
Virat Kohli tops the list of owing most 200 plus scores by an Indian captain in Tests.

5. Sunil Gavaskar (205 vs West Indies)

Sunil Gavaskar

Hailed by many as a complete batsman of all-time, Sunil Gavaskar holds the fifth spot in this list. Out of nine years he captained India, the Mumbaikar hardly put a foot wrong while batting, as he scored 3449 runs at a healthy average of 50.72. However, his highest individual score of 205 as captain came against the West Indies in 1978.

Playing at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India were asked to bat first after losing the toss. Often seen scoring runs at a snail’s speed, Gavaskar broke the jinx surprisingly, as he batted at his aggressive best against the Windies on that day. He completed his double hundred in six hours time, stitching 29 fours and two sixes to his name.

Courtesy his impressive knock of 73 in the second innings, England were denied a win even after taking a 71-run lead in the first innings as the match was drawn.
