3. Sachin Tendulkar (217 vs New Zealand)

Regardless of his magnificent numbers in international cricket, batting great Sachin Tendulkar had few stones left unturned when it boiled down to captaincy. Out of 25 matches he captained in Tests, India found success in only four, losing nine. However while batting, he had some reasons to smile.
During a Test against New Zealand at Ahmadabad in 1999, the little master notched up his highest individual score as a captain of the team. Alongside him, opener Sadagopan Ramesh and fellow mate Sourav Ganguly scored centuries too.
During his stint at the crease, the skipper hammered kiwi line-up all over the park, finding boundaries on 29 occasions. Although, Sachin’s double hundred kept in the sight to seal the match but resistance from the top-order of New Zealand in the fourth innings saw the match ending in a draw.
