2. Mahendra Singh Dhoni (224 vs Australia)

India’s most successful Test captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored his only double hundred against Australia in the first Test at Chennai in 2013. Dhoni’s innings was by far his most destructive one in international cricket. Sticking to basics early on, the captain unleashed the old Dhoni mode as Aussie were in for a hiding.
From Mitchell Starc to Nathan Lyon, every bowler was punished brutally. His exceptional innings on a dry Chennai pitch consisted of 24 fours and six massive sixes; a majority of them to the off-spinner, Nathan Lyon.
The effect of his innings was enough to keep Australia out of the winning race as they lost the match by eight wickets and were further whitewashed 4-0 in the series.
