Chasing 168 runs, South Africa were looking destined to achieve the total when they were 74 for 1 in the 16th over. However, Shoaib Akhtar derailed their innings by taking three wickets in the next over. The Proteas never recovered from that and were eventually dismissed for 101 runs. Only Herschelle Gibbs stood firm during the collapse, but his unbeaten innings of 59 off 79 balls could not win the match for his team.
